The PSD: Who We Are and What We Do
KSPC is a non-commercial radio station. Rather than run commercials on-the-air, we broadcast Public Service Announcements informing the local community about local non-profit organizations, public events and services, and generally helpful information. These categories (the last of which is admittedly broad and vague) encompass a wide range of announcements. Our PSA's range from advertising local art exhibitions, providing information about living in harmony with the environment, publicizing information about domestic violence shelters, and so forth. Our Public Service announcements take two forms: pre-recorded announcements, often sent to us by a sponsoring organization, and pre-written announcements, which the DJ's read on-air.
The Public Service Department is responsible for researching local organizations and events to publicize and amassing useful information for the public. In Spring of 2008 we've also taken on various other projects, such as creating a "Green Series" of PSA's. These will be home-recorded PSA's providing useful information about reducing waste and saving energy. There are five members of the Public Service Department.
Carmen "VOICE OF GOD" Blatt

Elaine "NOT AL GORE" Brown

Liz "PRETENDS TO BE A VEGETARIAN BUT ACTUALLY LOVES RUTT'S HUT HOT DOGS" Lipshultz

Mariana "THE QUIET BUT DEADLY" Schmalstig

...and chris.
That was the crew for the spring semester of 2008. If you would like to help out over the summer, I (chris) will be staying on as General Manager and so feel free to contact me whenever you'd like to get involved in the public service department or in any other part of KSPC. And we'll be needing volunteers in the fall as well!
